Crisis Not Averted

The Ferry Users Group of Waiheke (FUG) had a meeting with Auckland Transport (AT) officials to discuss transport issues, mainly the shortage of parking space at Matiatia and the provision of covered and disabled access to ferries in downtown piers.

FUG Chairman Daniel Silva said that the meeting may result in some marginal increases of one dozen or so car parking spaces, but said, “we were disappointed that AT has no apparent plans to cater for the needs to the community.” He added that “in the foreseeable future, the frustrations of insufficient parking in Waiheke and open-air, disabled-unfriendly wharves in Auckland will continue. AT’s justification that it has no control over areas ‘owned’ by other Auckland Council divisions is not a valid reason for its ongoing failure to provide adequate services. We will be seeking appropriate action at Council level from our elected representative, Councillor Mike Lee.”

An analysis of concerning signs of possible corporate excesses in AT is  here. Our report of this meeting is available here.
